Oatly Matcha Latte Recipe (Iced)
I’m used to drinking matcha with a Full-cream milk as this type of milk is the first type that I used as a beginner in the ‘Matcha World.’ But when I discovered about other milk substitutes like Oatside or Oatly Oat Milk, in my mind… “now I have more options to try besides Full-cream milk.” Plus, Oat Milk is also healthier, it’s vegan, and for me personally, it’s much more delightful than a Full-cream milk. And so Oatly Matcha Latte is a really great drink IMO!

There’s something about a matcha latte that makes me wanna crave it. For me, it’s not just that delightful, slightly sweet, and creamy taste. But it’s the experience, the feeling that makes you go pause for a moment, quietly, maybe after that long busy day working from home or in the corporate, or maybe, if you’re like me, after accomplishing my morning routine and prepare to start my work in the afternoon.
Most of the time, I drink my cup of Iced matcha latte after lunch, to reap the digestive benefits that it has after me eating that heavy lunch. Another reason is because it’s a must for me so I can perform well at work, my brain needs the caffeine content! Although sometimes, I also interchange it with coffee because I’m also a certified coffee lover! (LOL).
🌱 Why Oatly + Matcha Works So Well
- Flavor balance: Oat milks like Oatside and Oatly has a natural sweetness that softens matcha’s earthy and slightly bitter notes.
- Plant-based comfort: It’s dairy-free but still delightful, perfect for anyone looking for a lighter option vs Full-cream milk.
- Everyday luxury: A café-style drink you can make at home without fuss.
- Versatility: Works beautifully hot or iced, so you can enjoy it year-round.
✨ Fun Matcha Fact
Did you know that Matcha has been enjoyed in Japan for centuries, originally introduced by Zen monks who valued its calming yet energizing effects. It was also the pre-battle drink of Samurai’s. Today, it’s become a global favorite. You can see it on FB feeds, Tiktok videos, and maybe from the IG story from one of your friends!
Ingredient Notes
- Matcha powder: Go for ceremonial-grade if you want a smoother, more delicate flavor. Culinary-grade works too, especially if you prefer a stronger, bolder taste.
- Hot water: Keep it below boiling, too hot and it can make the matcha taste bitter. Around 175°F (80°C) is the sweet spot.
- Oatly oat milk: The Barista Edition froths beautifully and gives that café-style creaminess, great for Hot Matcha. Regular Oatly works fine if that’s what you have on hand, definitely perfect for Iced Matcha.
- Sweetener: Honey is a healthy option for sweetener, maple syrup and brown sugar works well too. But you can skip it altogether if you prefer the pure earthiness of matcha.
🥄Iced Oatly Matcha Latte Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon high-quality matcha powder (3g-4g)
- 2–3 tablespoons hot water (not boiling, about 175°F)
- 1 cup Oatly oat milk (barista edition works best for hot, the regular one is fine for iced)
- 1 teaspoon honey, maple syrup, or brown sugar (optional, to taste)

🍵How to make Oatly Matcha Latte (Iced)
- Sift the matcha: Use a small sifter to gently sift your matcha powder into a bowl. This breaks up clumps and ensures a silky-smooth drink.
- Whisk the matcha: Add hot water (about 175°F or 80°C, not boiling) to the sifted matcha. Whisk briskly until smooth and frothy. A bamboo whisk (chasen) is traditional, but a handheld frother works just as well.
- Sweeten (optional): Stir in honey, maple syrup, or brown sugar while the matcha is still warm so it blends easily.
- Add ice: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes, this is the base for your iced latte.
- Top with Oatly: Pour chilled Oatly oat milk over the ice, letting it settle as the creamy base.
- Pour the matcha: Slowly pour the whisked matcha mixture over the oat milk. This creates that beautiful green-on-white swirl effect.
- Sip & enjoy: Give it a gentle stir, drink and enjoy!
📌Recipe Tips / Expert Tips
- Sift your matcha: A quick sift before whisking helps prevent clumps and gives a smoother latte.
- Whisk in “M” or zig-zag motions: Instead of stirring in circles, whisk briskly back and forth to create froth.
- Use a chilled bowl for iced lattes: If you’re making an iced version, whisk the matcha in a cool bowl so it blends better with cold milk.
- Balance sweetness: Start with less sweetener, Oatly already has a natural sweetness, then adjust to taste.
- Experiment with flavors: A drop of vanilla syrup or a sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa powder works well too!
🍯 Pairing Ideas
